I hope that you have had an enjoyable time during the recent festivities. I however have something of a problem and I would appreciate some help." The tired old man leans slowly back on the scaffolding supporting the west wall of his inn and pulls from his tool belt a damaged leather bound book. "After my little party here [strictly for those of us who are rebuilding the tavern] Flame brought this over. She said that she'd found it in the woodpile. Now as you can see this is a 12x9 inch tome of around 100 pages with the elder rune braxus on it. Since then we've found a number of similar books. I've had it looked at and it appears to be a spellbook so I intend to start passing around extracts of the book until it's owner shows up and explains what his spellbooks are doing in my woodpile." Veringens Curse [Summon Fang Warrior] Level : 7 Range : 0 Needs : VSM Duration: 1 day/level Save : N/A C. Time : 1 turn With the use of this spell a mage may summon from a currently unknown location a number of servants. This spell is rare due to the material component required. Each servant requires the prescence of one tooth from an adult or older dragon. There is no limit to the number of creatures that may be summonned with each casting. It is important to know the type of dragon that the tooth originated from at the time of casting. Servants are: HD : 5+3 AC : Original dragon minus three #att: 2 claw/claw Dam : 1d6/1d6 Spec: Breath weapon Move: 12"/18" Servants are 6' humanoid dragon creatures with wings permitting type C flight. Colouration is as the original dragon and breath weapon of appropriate type is 5d6 3/day. Servants is however a misleading title since only if the 'canine' teeth of the dragon are used and correctly named will the summonned beings serve the caster. In all other cases the proceedure goes array and the 'servants' are uncontrollable and smitten with the unstoppable desire to slay the caster. This is where Veringen met his end when attempting to alter the spell to work on any tooth from the dragon he cast a double handfull to the floor and was torn assunder by his creations. Servants speak the languages of the caster plus the original dragon types. Additionally opposing colour types [chromatic vs metallic] will attack each other wildly on sight. This spell continues giving descriptions of the sort of missions that will or won't be undertaken by the servant. A copy of this spell will be made available to any one who can predict the exact restrictions Telurians Fire-bolt Level : 4 Duration: Instant C.Time : 1 round Needs : VSM Range : 120' + 10'/lvl Save : 1/2 damage This spell creates unsurprisingly a bolt of fire. This may be a single bolt from caster to one target or any number of independantly targetted bolts up to 1/lvl. If fired at one person damage is (1D6+1) per level of the caster. If fired at multiple targets the damage is 1D6 per bolt [more than one bolt can be fired simultaneously at a target giving a xD6 bolt but only one save is made and the additional damage only comes into play if the is but a single bolt.] This spells advantage over fireball is its ability to strike only the desired targets during melee. It's level is higher due to the fact that 1000's of wizards have spent centuries refining fireball and making it easier to cast where as this spell is considerred very rare. Material components are as for fire ball whilst somnatic are both hands crossed at the wrists in front of the body swept rapidly apart. Intervening solid objects between caster and target will take damage INSTEAD of target. These are just two examples of the spells found written in these pages but the translation I recieved for them was necessarily inexact. My magician friend is unable to cast spells of this magnitude. So out of curiousity if anyone knows any more of the limits on these spells please get in touch. Thanx in advance Warlock The man with the cunning plan! Prop. The One Eyed Unicorn
