Subject: AD&D: New spell ( in 1EU ) In answer to David Campitelli (sp?): Yes, I use modified THAC0, included all pluses, in my system. However, you should bear in mind that you _can_ parry a two handed sword with a dagger. The idea of a parry is not to meet head-on, but merely to deflect. Note to all Weapon and Shield specialists, remember that a shield has +2 to hit when parrying or disarming, in addition to magical bonuses. Now on with the show. ************************************************************************ Hammers ring and saws buzz. Many men bustle about, putting the final touches to the newly rebuilt inn, the One-Eyed Unicorn. Inside, the landlord is having a quiet drink with a customer who, in simply inviting a somewhat overbearing Demi-God for a drink, had turned the inn into the gathering point for a whole host of Heroes, Gods Demons, Wizards, Irda and other ne'er do wells. "But tell me Bladehawk," said the aging landlord, whose name was Warlock, "surely as a noted wielder of the rapier you must agree that, in the hands of one with such reactions as yourself, it will pierce any wizards gullet faster than he can chant a charm?" Smiling beneath his mask, Bladehawk took an appreciative sip of his wine. "My speed with the rapier is due to the rapiers own lightness," he said, " and this particular rapier has been some-wise enchanted, making it even faster. While my exceptional hand-eye co-ordination means I am rarely taken unawares, and is responsible for the ease with which I wield my rapier and main-gauche, it does not affect my speed of attack." "Hum. Well, the poor mage is still out-classed," grumbled Warlock," while warriors may absorb many spells or blows, and nothing keeps them from landing their cuts, one swipe and a wizards spell is knocked clean out of his noggin. Also, spells of Silence and Darkness are often targetted on wizards, preventing them from casting." "Ah, but there are spells to counter such," returned the Swashbuckling Paladin, "and where there are none, why, such may be invented readily. I know of an elvish master of Art, by name Cobaltas Ravenswing, who has done much research in that area, and whose solution also solves the problem of dealing with those who get too close." COBALTAS'S THUNDERFLASH (Evocation) Level : 5 Range : 0 Components : S Duration : Instantaneous Casting Time : 2 Area of Affect : Semi-Circle 20' Radius Saving Throw : Special To cast this spell, the wizard raises both hands above her head, crossed at the wrist. She then brings them down and out in a slashing motion. As her hands part there is a brilliant flash of light, affecting all within 20' and in front of the wizard. Those affected must save vs. spell. All who _make_ their save are stunned and reeling for 1 round, unable to attack, move or cast spells. They are also blinded for 1d6 rounds. Those who fail must make a second save vs. spell. Those who make this save are stunned for 1d6 rounds and blinded for a number of rounds equal to the casters level. Those who fail again are stunned for a number of rounds equal to the casters level and permanently blinded. Any magical darkness whose area of affect intersects the thunderflash is instantly dispelled. COBALTAS'S THUNDERCLAP (Evocation) Level : 5 Range : 0 Components : S Duration : Instantaneous Casting Time : 2 Area of Affect : Semi-Circle 20' Radius Saving Throw : Special To cast this spell the wizard raises her hands above her head, spread wide. She then brings them down and in to meet with a tremendous Clap. This affects all within 20' and in front of her as a THUNDERFLASH but deafens not blinds, ( spellcasters have a 20% chance to miscast spells with a Verbal Component, ) and dispels Silence not Darkness. COBALTAS'S INFRAFLASH (Evocation) Level : 3 Range : 0 Components : S Duration : Instantaneous Casting Time : 2 Area of Affect : Semi-circle 20' Radius. Saving Throw : Special This is a less powerfull form of THUNDERFLASH, which only affects those using Infravision, blinding them in all types of light however. Those not using Infravision will feel a wave of heat wash over them, but will be otherwise unaffected. COBALTAS'S CRACK OF DOOM (Evocation) Level : 7 Range : 0 Components : S Duration : Instantaneous Casting Time : 3 Area of Affect : Semi-circle, 20' Radius Saving Throw : Special To cast this spell the wizard raises her hands above her head, palms together. She then brings them down, out and back up again to meet above her head with a Flash and a Bang, combining the effects of THUNDERFLASH and THUNDERCLAP. Affects are saved against separately. ********************************************************************* Anyone wishing to have their list persona enter the inn and converse with Bladehawk and Co, please send your post to me.
