Date: Fri, 11 Feb 1994 13:22:36 PST From: Michael Schmitz Subject: a good cursed item- don't read this Blake!!!! Blake, get out of this post right now. I mean it! Don't read this. If you read this, and i can tell next session, i'll kill off you're mage SO fast you won't even be able to SAY fist of stone... ==============================end warning================================= I'm bored right now, so here is what i consider a really cool curse to put on a Giant Slayer sword. The character gets this sword, say one morning. by the end of the day (assuming he used the thing a couple of times) he realizes that the sword has been fairly throbbing with power, and decides that it really is a great sword. It makes him feel so powerful. He then realizes that his life would mean nothing without this sword, and that he would rather die than give it up. (basically, the DM has to hand the guy a note saying this) Now, for the next week, he MUST make every attempt to kill every creature over 10' tall, to the point of sacrificing his life to do so. the effects of the curse vary over time, so here's a table: length of time with sword size of creatures that warrior must kill 1 week 10' or taller 2 weeks 8' or taller 3 weeks 7' or taller (later minotaurs!) 4 weeks 6 1/2' or taller ( uh, oh...) 6 weeks anyone taller than fighter ;) I really like this curse, as it gives the group time to do something about it, but if the fighter role-plays well, they might just assume he hates giant type creatures. Untill, of course, they meet the LG, helpful, smiling, father-of-7 6 1/2' tall baron... ====================another cursed thing, this one a spell====================== Thillis' Monster Servant [charm] level: 4 range: 5'/lev casting time: 2 r components: v,s,m duration: special area effect: one creature save: neg. Monster Servant will bind a creature to the caster's will. The spell does not grant any form of communication, so the wizard and the monster must be able to communicate for the spell to work. All humans, demi-humans, and creatures with Int of greater than 10 are immune to the effects of the spell. Wis bonus to saves apply if the monster HAS wisdom. An effected creature will do anything for the caster, including sacrificing its life. The spell's duration is similar to that of the charm person spell, but the DM should modify times as he wishes. When the creature is told to place itself at risk, a new saving throw should be rolled. ================================================================================ now for the fun part: (heh, heh, heh...) This obviously over-powered spell (over-powered in MY opinion at least) has a MAJOR drawback: whenever the spell is cast, there is a chance, equal to: (target creatures hit dice- caster Wis bonus to magical saves) ------------------------------------------------------------- 20 that the spell will drive the caster insane, and will also subject him to the creatures will at that point in time. NOTE: the spell still progresses normally , so if the creature was wishing that the caster would be his slave, and the caste r went insane, but the creature failed its save, they would both be each others slave! (weird huh) also, keep in mind that a caster with WIS 18 could cast this spell on creatures of up to 4 HD, as his Wis bonus would be 4, and there would be NO chance of insanity. This curse was not built into the spell, but was a side effect. The mage that researched it did not put in a limitation on targets HD, and drew the energy to enslave the creature from her own will power. Therefore, when she tried it on a creature of 14 HD, she didn't have the willpower to overcome it, and she went crazy. Actually, she became it's mate, thinking she was a Fire Giant. That's what the creature was looking for when she cast the spell! that's it folks, Mike Schmitz: _______________________________________________________ DM,SubGenius, / See You in HELL! \ manipulator of \ / mediocretins. / (Or a reasonable hand-drawn facsimile) \ -=>sLACk<=- \_______________________________________________________/
